Drop-off and Pick-up
Drop-off and Pick-up Safety Procedures
We at Decatur have been working on creating procedures that will help with a smooth flow of students, parents, and traffic. We hope that these procedures and guidelines will help keep everyone safe and ensure that each of us gets to school ready to learn. Keep your eye out for people in the crosswalks and biking around school.
We strongly encourage students to ride the bus, walk, or bike to school. These methods help reduce the number of cars entering and exiting the campus, reducing congestion and increasing safety. Each student outside of the walk zone should receive busing information. If you have any questions about your child’s bus, please contact the Transportation Department at 206-252-0900 or transdept@seattleschools.org.
Bus
When children arrive via the bus, they are dropped off on NE 77th St. They will then walk through an interior courtyard and out to the playground to play and wait for the bell to ring. Staff will be on 77th to meet and greet students arriving via bus.
Drop-off
If you do drive to school for drop-off or pick-up we encourage you to carpool with other families. Please do not drop off students in the parking lot for their own safety and for traffic flow reasons. We do not want children, or adults, walking where staff cars, district trucks, and garbage/recycling trucks will be pulling through.
Instead, drop off students ONLY on the east-bound curb of NE 80th St by the gate to the playground. Staff will be there to welcome students arriving by car or foot. Once in the line of cars we ask that you do not get out of your vehicle for any reason. Staff will help students exit your vehicle from the passenger-side once you have reached the front of the line. Your child should be ready to hop out of the car in the morning.
Please continue to drive slowly and safely around the entire block (40th, 80th, 43rd, and 77th). This helps to keep students safe who are walking or biking to school.
Please also ensure that you are refraining from using your cellphone while in line, giving your full attention to driving will help keep staff, students, and community safe.
If your child needs assistance or you want to walk them in you may park in the staff lot.
After School Pick-up
Please find a parking spot in the neighborhood, and turn off your engine to avoid idling.
Meet your child at the gate of the playground on 80th where they were dropped off. Once you have your child, use the crosswalk to return to your car.
If you are walking or biking to pick up your child after school you will also meet them on 80th by the school playground.
